People who have lost their Aadhaar card or don't remember their Aadhaar number can now easily get their information back through the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The organization has made simple steps for recovering either the Aadhaar number (UID) or Enrolment ID (EID) by using both digital and physical methods.

The registered mobile number Aadhaar holders can activate the “Retrieve UID/EID” tool on the UIDAI website. The procedure entails selecting between the two options that are whether to recover the Aadhaar number or the Enrolment ID. After this, the user is to input the full name, registered mobile number or email address, and a captcha code for verification.

When the details are submitted that way, an OTP (One-Time Password) goes to the mobile or email registered. The Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID is then sent through SMS for the user to do the verification. This service does not cost anything and is usually completed in a few minutes.

Non-Linked Mobile Numbers Offline Process

In case of a person losing his/her registered mobile number, he/she can only recover the password by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre. The user will have to give personal details like name, gender, district, or PIN code. The center will then perform a biometric check by utilizing fingerprints or iris scans. Once the information is found to be a match with the UIDAI database, a printed e-Aadhaar letter will be issued but only after paying a nominal fee of Rs 30.

The UIDAI is also maintaining a help desk that can be reached by calling 1947. Those who call may have a conversation with a customer service agent, tell demographic details, and if he or she is verified, obtain his or her Enrolment ID. There is also an IVRS follow-up call during which the user is allowed to confirm his or her EID, date of birth, and PIN code in order to get back his or her Aadhaar number. This service does not charge any fee.

If the Aadhaar letter is lost, individuals can go to any Aadhaar center and give their Aadhaar number or the 28-digit Enrolment ID written on their acknowledgment slip to get a new one. After the biometric verification, the e-Aadhaar copy is printed, and the fee is Rs 30.
